Cemetery Construction Works
KELRAY was approached by a main contractor for Caerphilly County Council to carry out a full fit-out of a new build cemetery. The project aimed to create a high-quality, purpose-built space with offices and storage for cemetery staff, as well as public toilets that meet the council's requirements.
Objectives and Challenges:
The main objective of the project was to create a space that met the client's brief, which was to ensure sufficient spaces for staff use, as well as high-quality purpose-built WC facilities for the general public. The project was also carried out during challenging weather conditions throughout the winter period in Caerphilly South Wales.
Project Description
The project's first phase involved creating an open-plan space in most areas of the office, while the second phase focused on the creation of glass partition meeting pods to maximise the use of space. The project's works included recycling glass panels to create new partitions, installing Dune Evo Tegular suspended ceilings, laying carpet tiles, installing partitions, and a full decoration to create a modern and attractive workspace.
Project Budget
he project was completed on time within the budget, and the client was incredibly pleased with the results. KELRAY carried out external and internal block work, including a new roof with timber trusses, felt, batten, and tile. The team also completed plastering works, including rendering and skimming walls, plasterboard and skim ceilings. Electrical wiring was installed for internal works, including alarms, security lighting, solar panels, CCTV, and data points for connectivity. Full mechanical and plumbing works were completed, including ventilation installation, hot and cold water services, external water and irrigation, and full testing and commissioning. Rainwater gutters, facias, and downpipes were installed, as well as powder-coated aluminium windows.

The project was carried out during challenging weather conditions, yet was still completed on time and within budget. The purpose-built WC facilities for the general public and the use of sustainable materials, such as solar panels, were noteworthy aspects of the project.
